Gill mapping was an event organized by the Department of civil engineering,Guru Nank Dev engineering college,ludhiana on 22/11/2009(sunday) at 9:00 a.m. For preparing digital map of gill village with the help of nss unit,association of civil engineers & Linux User Group(LUG) Ludhiana with following objectives.
(a)To help Govt./NGos for their social welfare schemes.
(b)To help our community such as traffic police,cabs etc in track locating.
(c)To help physically challenged people(blind) navigate on their own
(d)To help grow industrial business in the area of “digital mapping” and to provide scope of placements for students.
It was a cool event.The students were given gps devices to make map of village .A brief idea was provided to them how to use these devices by the teachers. After saving the data of village, students came back for the next task i.e. now they have to upload it using a software known as “JOSM” (download it from www.) After uploading and editing the MAP is ready “INDIA’S FIRST DIGITAL VILLAGE MAP – GILL
